“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.” (Hebrews 12:1-2)
These verses have tremendous instruction and encouragement for us as we seek to progress in our faith. For today, let’s focus on a phrase right in the middle of these 74 words: “fixing our eyes on Jesus.”
These five words speak to our focus, an infinitely important element since you become what you behold and your focus determines your reality. Said another way, the atmosphere and drive found within your inner reality determines the nature of your external reality.
Activity that perpetuates this reality include regular communion with the Lord to learn and understand the nature of truth – of reality – and to comprehend who God is and what he desires of each one of us.
Decide to focus on who God is, what Jesus did in his earthly ministry, and how the Holy Spirit exists in your life today. Learn what’s important to God, what Jesus taught, and your role in living out God’s will. Fix your eyes on Jesus and let him perfect your faith.
